15 minutes – Mabel & Lucca

Mabel and Lucca became victims of my photography obsession for approximately 15 minutes late one afternoon.
A group of us were preparing dinner and had approximately 15 minutes to wait so I grabbed my camera and we all made a quick dash out to the empty field beside the house. I had some ideas that I wanted to work on and I had willing subjects. Well Mabel was willing, Lucca was ‘voluntold’ by his mom. Even the other dinner-buddy  joined in and became the ‘photographers assistant’
I think this is what we would call a quick-and-dirty session. A couple minutes to set up…run back to the house for a memory card, Duh!, position the subjects and start shooting. It was a really fun, quick shoot.
Poor Lucca did everything I asked of him. But he was obviously not comfortable in front of the camera and was a bit stiff.  Mom decided to lighten-up the shoot and Lucca the only way a mother could…by being a goof. It worked and we all left the field smiling and laughing. And a great dinner was waiting for us when we got in.

The Arnolds

I have had the privilege of knowing this wonderful, giving couple for many years. They both have just retired and are embarking on a new chapter of their life. This new chapter includes moving from their current residence. They wanted a little memento of the many great years   they had spent in this house. So, I photographed them on their property.
We spent a few minutes shooting around the outside of their home on a beautiful sunny day. It was lovely, and even the dogs seemed to enjoy themselves. They appreciated the sentiment and were thrilled with the end results.

Do you have a special moment you would like immortalized? Would you like updated family photos? Business headshots or commercial work? Please feel free to call me, I would love to work with you.

A day at the Beach

I spent a lovely day at White Rock and Crescent Beaches on Saturday. It was perfect weather for a day at the beach.
The White Rock pier basked in the morning sunshine adding a nice golden glow to it, while a faint moon hung overhead. Seagulls and eagles tossed about on the wind overhead. The wind made kite flying and parasailing the sports of choice. Individuals dug for sea food treats while others strolled the sands as the tide inched its way out.
It really was a perfect day.

Artist to Artist

Recently I had the privilege of meeting up with an old friend, a fantastic and talented lady. She is many things, health practitioner, yoga instructor and artist.  We spent about an hour shooting some head shots and chatting. When the conversations turned to her paintings and she started pulling out her artwork, she lit up.  This was the last shot we did in the session, of her and an work in progress, and it showed the passion she has for her art.
I can’t wait to do more with this lovely lady.

Fabulous lights

I love abstract photography. As you might have guessed if you have looked at my Wall Art page.
I love taking a seemingly normal object and photographing it in an unusual way. Christmas lights are no exception.
I found a very lovely ‘dream catcher’ made of Christmas lights locally. It was stunning and it was just begging me to photograph it. So I obliged.
I hope you like the ‘Fabulous Lights’. I’m sure one of these will end up on my wall.

15 minute Mini Session – Wet Pup

I had the honour of take this little girl puppy’s portrait photos for her adoption file. She is looking for her forever home and I hope these photos will help her find the perfect new home.

It was pouring rain out, but she was a real trooper. We huddled underneath the eaves of the utility building at Townsend Park cold and dripping.  She didn’t seem to mind the cold or the flash on the camera going off. She was extremely cooperative and attentive, especially when there were treats around.

She is definitely a sweet, lovely girl.

A little horsing around

I had a wonderful opportunity to photograph some very gorgeous, intelligent and curious animals this last weekend.

My friends Sue and Ted let me wander around their lovely equestrian farm and take photos of their 7 horses. Here are a few shots of their lovely horses and pony.

This little guy is named Moose. He is the smallest horse on the farm and is best friends with the biggest horse on farm. They are so cute together. And he thinks he is a lap dog. He followed me around the paddock trying to sticking his nose in through the fence to get to my camera and pockets.

Paw Prints – Daisy and her stick

I opened the back door to the winter wonderland that lay before us. I was unceremoniously shoved out of the way by a rambunctious Golden Retriever named Daisy. She ripped out into the front yard bounding and sliding wildly on the ice covered snow. Dodging downed tree branches, buried flowerpots and shrubs. She suddenly stops in the middle of the yard, whips around and stares at me; I have the stick.
As I carefully navigate the terrain Daisy is leaping around in the chest deep snow, looking more like a Jack Rabbit than a dog. I reach my destination, the front yard, only to look up at the 70 lb fur-ball hurdling towards me. I quickly fling the stick in the opposite direction to avoid the inevitable collision. Daisy springs into action and tears after the mutilate piece of tree branch she adopted the night before.

She finds her beloved and picks it up at one end, prancing around in circles like a proud parent. She runs a couple of laps of the yard with the stick dragging behind her like a gold-medal champion doing laps after a victorious race. Finally she decides to bring it back to me. I feel privileged; after all, I am only the pet sitter/photographer.
Bringing it to me really means 3 feet away. I saunter over to her as she has now on her belly chewing the end of the her beloved. As I cautiously approach she gets up and stands on the stick, burying it in the snow. I reach down to pick it up and she is all over me like bug spray, licking my face, head butting me and generally being annoying. Yet, she never takes her paws off the stick.

I finally shove her out of the way and dig out the piece of slimy wood from underneath her. I fling it across the yard. Ok, it was more like 3 feet because I throw like a girl.  Daisy bounds off to retriever her baby. This process continues for some time. Both of us finally become exhausted from all this exercise.
I throw her beloved out into the yard, one last time, after explaining to her it is time to go. She chases after it but only picks up the very tip of it. As she drags it behind her she stumbles and digs the other end into the snow and ground. We now have the dog vs. stick fight.
After a few attempts of pulling, digging and just plain fighting with the thing, she tries repositioning her mouth. Success!.

She drags her beloved, slightly shorter, stick out of the front yard and into the back door of the house. Apparently playtime is over!
For Daisy it was another successful play date with the beloved stick. For me it was an opportunity to photograph a passionate dog in action.

As always comments are welcome. Let me know if you would like to see more adventures.
